Blackford Analysis has used MOPED to build a Registration Engine allowing near-instant calculations of the orientations of 2D or 3D medical scans. Such alignments typically take of order minutes, although some proprietary codes can register in 5-10 seconds on bespoke, high-cost hardware. The Registration Engine can perform similar tasks in under a second, on hardware such as a laptop computer.  The key advantage of our technology comes when considering future datasets, where MOPED’s unique scaling properties mean that the competition is left behind. While other methods scale with problem size, increasing computation time by a factor of 8 when resolution doubles, MOPED scales with the number of parameters, which remain constant.  This means that as datasets get larger, the Registration Engine’s speed hardly changes, uniquely placing Blackford Analysis at the forefront of future medical imaging problems with their patented technology.

See above for our innovation in action!

Blackford Analysis is a University of Edinburgh spinout group which develops commercial solutions based on the MOPED algorithm, orginally in astrophysics but now generalised to any problem where large sets of data must be analysed quickly.
